Why Briggs & Stratton Genuine Parts?

Only Briggs & Stratton genuine parts are specially designed to exact OEM standards, manufactured and tested to help deliver optimum performance in Briggs & Stratton engines. Not only are Briggs & Stratton genuine parts guaranteed to fit, but using them ensures that the Briggs & Stratton engine they are installed on complies with applicable (EPA) emission regulations.

There are no substitutes when it comes to keeping engine powered equipment healthy. To maximize engine life, meet original equipment spec's always use genuine parts from Briggs & Stratton.

Using non-original parts may seem OK based on looks, but they don't match up to genuine Briggs & Stratton parts in terms of performance. Use genuine parts to maintain good engine health from season to season.

I sought this out as an OEM replacement for my 8 year old push mower''s fraying starter pull cord. The old cord that was fraying but still in service after 8 years was constructed in 3 layers, it had an internal tensile straight core, wrapped with a standard braid rope and lastly a higher density wear sheath crimped to the portion of the pull cord that slips through the eyelet in the housing. So when purchasing a Briggs & Stratton OEM replacement, this is what I was expecting for my money.

What I got looks like nothing more then a simple diamond braid cord which sells on amazon for less then $0.08/ft. You can even feel the stretch of the cord as you pull the starter due to the lack of the tensile core. Shame on Briggs & Stratton for packaging this stuff to pawn off as OEM quality!

This starter rope and grip handle ought to work as a replacement for the broken one on my generator. However, the rope appears to be not as strong as the last one I ordered. More importantly, the handle is completely different than the last one I ordered that had the same part number. It used to be a two-piece handle that came apart to install the starter rope. Now it is a cheaper one-piece handle that seems much less beefy, and the rope is now hard to install and adjust in it. Worst of all, although the handle has been completely changed, the instructions have not! The instructions are still for the old two-piece handle, leaving me to puzzle how to possibly pull the handle apart to install the rope. You can''t, you have to thread the rope up through the handle and then snake it out the side. Do-able, but less convenient, and it sure would have been nice to know by a simple sentence in the instructions.

OEM part, easy install if you know what you''re doing. Hint: there''s no reason to take the spring return mechanism apart if just replacing the rope. Just compress the spring by turning the pulley, hold it in place, and thread the new rope in. Secure with a knot and slowly release the pulley to wind the rope onto the pulley.

Being OEM I assume durability will be comparable. So you may be replacing it again in a few years time, depending on how much you have to pull to get your mower to start. The original did wear out, after all.

Needed to replace pull starter that had apparently been runover by the lawnmower! The photo was of the newer, larger handle; but, when it arrived it was the older, smaller replacement. The replacement went smoothly and since it is being used by my daughter, the smaller handle has not been a problem. When removing the old cord be careful to lock up the recoil wheel to preserve the proper tension and to keep the spring from flying free.

This is the second one of these starter ropes that we purchased.

The pull rope on the hand me down mower we picked up from my folks broke its starter rope a few seasons ago. As a Briggs & Stratton mower, this looked to be pretty much the exact fit and installed pretty much like the YouTube self help videos all showed. This was at the end of the mowing season in 2018.

Now, after using it for less than 3 seasons, the pull cord just broke, requiring us to take the mower apart again to replace it. It''s not a particularly difficult repair, and the cost is not much at all, but I expect items to last longer than this, especially one that is not used all that often.

Bottom line is that it will work, and it''s cheap, but you may want something stronger for your repair.

I only needed a 44" piece of pull string, so this left me plenty where I could wrap the pull string and have plenty of rope left over to tie a knot, test the length, and then adjust. Sadly since my pull string broke my carburetor gummed up, but I got that fixed and my pressure washer with my Briggs & Stratton motor (about 14 years old) is running great again. I''ll be shocked if this pull rope lasts another 14 years, but if it does, that will really be impressive on the age of the pressure washer! If this does not break in the next 3-4 years, i would buy it again.

Bought to replace a broken cord on the cheap. This rope is nice and long, lots of extra is included. The handle is small, so this shouldn''t be used on anything bigger than 5hp motors.

Good OEM product

Good OEM product. I''ve installed it on my 15yr old Noma 3.5hp lawn mower. The cord length is more than enough. Had to cut 3 feet off so it would match the length of the old one, which was slightly more that 4 feet.
